1996 Daimler Double Six 6.0

Jaguar Cars introduced the Daimler Double Six in 1972 as the Daimler version of the Jaguar V12 XJ saloon derived from the original body style designed by Sir William Lyons. The V12 engine was developed continually until the last were built in 1996. The final development stage saw the 6.0 litre version of the engine, which was developed for the X300 Saloons, introduced in 1993 and which continued in production until the last cars in 1996.

The Daimler Double Six and Jaguar XJ12 were seen in their day as the primary rivals to the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. The ride quality and smooth silent power of the V12 engine was, and is, considered by some to be better than the Shadow. When the 6.0 litre V12 was introduced in the X300 saloons it produced a car which was utterly serene in ride and performance.

The Jaguar V12 engine is described by many engineers as a “hot wet engine,“ and at the end of a journey when emerging from the car you sense that a thoroughbred has transported you. Like a steam locomotive the engine emits its own aromas of oil and heat, all quite normal but which just seem so right.

Our 1996 car is a last of line model and has been in the fleet since 2008, yet continues to amaze and delight followers and newcomers to the Jaguar V12 experience. It is a long wheelbase saloon with individual but un-cluttered rear seats with ample room to sprawl.
The front passenger seat is also adjustable from the rear giving even more legroom.

This car is finished in distinguished dark blue metallic paintwork with grey leather hide piped sympathetically. The leather trim of any classic car is special but the maturing smell of this original car is wonderful and the light grey hides compliment the bodywork so well.
